Personality & Traits
General Overview | ![]() Personable, witty, and grounded, T’Avia is passionate about her studies and interests. Science is more than a profession for her, it has been a field that has permitted her expression, freedom, and growth as an individual. Quick-witted and audacious, Ms Espinosa does not simply go with the status quo and is not afraid of bucking societal norms or traditions. Half Vulcan, Half human, she is appreciative of both sides of her nature and biology. Born and raised in the Bajío region of Mexico, T’Avia has a fondness for Mexican culture and cuisine preferring her plomeek soup to have a bit of a kick to it. She’s been educated on Earth in her formative years but moved to Vulcan in her teenage years to continue her education and subsequent adult education at the Ni’Var Science Institute. T'Avia does nothing partially. She always gives her tasks, duties, friendships and relationships 100% of her energy and then some which can be exhausting, but she only knows to be constantly on the move. She’s a stressaholic that excels under pressure and does not know the word procrastination. Though her time with Vulcans has taught her emotional restraint and discipline, she does not believe in following the teaching of Surak entirely though she would be quick to argue against the label V'tosh ka'tur as she does not believe that she is ‘without logic’ in any sense. For T’Avia, no belief is too sacred to be questioned, no idea is too fundamental to be scrutinized, and no rule is too important to be broken or at least thoroughly tested. It is her belief that doing so is the very nature of science and exploration. This has gained her a reputation as being a bit of a risk-taker and has resulted in most Vulcan ships as to preferring her time aboard with them be short. |

Personal History | ![]() Born and raised on Earth, T'Avia Espinosa has embraced the complexity of her ancestry and relishes in it. She may not be as 'logical' as most Vulcans, but she is not nearly as impulsive as Humans tend to be. Her childhood was spent in Bajío region of Mexico in a very close and large family. She's the eighth and youngest child of Setok and Carina Herrera Espinosa. She attended Colegio Nuevo Continente where she was a bit of of a social butterfly but far from being a teacher's pet due her assertive nature in the classroom. She was always quick to answer yet also quick to dismiss the counterpoints. Being a 'team player' did not come naturally for T'Avia. Her favorite subject in school was science and she excelled in the sciences throughout her primary and secondary education. If there was one thing T'Avia was better at than the sciences it was sports. More specifically, football (soccer) where she played on her high school's women's team as a winger, but her passion for venting steam and emotion was boxing. She continued boxing into adulthood, winning competitions on Earth and throughout the Federation. She gained the nickname Mariposa de hierro in her native Mexico for her hard hitting body shots targeting the ribs and liver of her opponents. It was during this time that she received the tattoo on her neck after a long night fueled with tequila. Curving her aggression in later years, T'Avia attended the Ni'Var Science Institute (Vulcan Science Academy). At the academy she learned discipline, taking off her boxing gloves for the more open-handed Suus Mahna, a Vulcan martial arts. It taught her restraint and more fluidic motions geared towards evasive maneuvers and defensive postures rather than the aggressive attacks she was used to. Her academic studies at the science academy were Biology and Philosophy though she picked up an additional minor in Ethics. When she graduated from the Vulcan Science Academy, she went into service for the Vulcan Government. Receiving training and a commissioned rank of Sub-Lieutenant, T'Avia Espinosa served several months aboard the Vulcan cruiser VCF T'san s'at as an Astrobiologist. The opportunity to serve a Federation starship presented itself in 2392, and at the behest of the Commander of the T'san s'at, T'Avia transferred to the USS Westminster, a parliament class starship. She received the provisional rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and was stationed as a junior science officer aboard the Westminster. She would become a valuable member of the crew rising to hold the position of Assistant Chief Science Officer. With the unforeseen leave of absence of Lieutenant Percival Bálor aboard the USS Ontario, there became a need for an experienced science officer. Though the Ontario had capable officers aboard that could step up to fill the position of Acting Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Espinosa petitioned Starfleet for her candidacy to be considered. |
