486 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Out of Time
Location: USS Ontario Deck 7 - A and A lab.

T'Rala moved with a mixture of speed and carefulness. In her hand, she held a small carved metallic artifact she'd discovered on one of her previous missions. Currently having some downtime after that incident with Security had been solved, she went in search of an archaeologist, to see what they could tell her about it.

Arriving at the correct lab, she sounded the buzzer and awaited an answer.

Remedy still did not have her own lab, well technically most of the scientists did not have their own lab. Like always, she was tapping her stylus, again it was absentmindedly doing it, but at some level, it was on purpose. She sighed when she heard the buzzer, {what idiot closed the door, and what idiot just doesn't walk into a group lab,} she thought before hitting a button that opened the door and kept it open.

T'Rala entered. "Good afternoon, Ensign." She said. "I have an artifact you might want to look at." She added handing it over to the other woman.

"Of course you do, I mean artifacts just seem to drop out of the sky and land in people's lap," Remedy said shaking her head, "let the experts tell you if it is in fact an artifact," The Rigellian said with a huff.

"It didn't exactly fall from the sky." T'Rala began. "I discovered it while on a mission to Stellus IV. It was in some kind of ruined building." She explained.

"...so you just took it, took an artifact that isn't yours, or potentially belongs to your people?" Remedy asked, hating people who feel like they can just take, well just take what they find.

"Ensign, Stellus IV is a desolate wasteland to which no one lays claim," T'Rala replied. "If you can discover its owner, and they or their family still live, I will gladly return it." She stated.

Remedy snarled, "wasteland or not, never mind, may I?" She asked knowing that damn right she was going investigate, but first, she needed to know what it was.

T'Rala handed over the metallic artifact, which was round and flat with a diameter of 6.5cm. It was also engraved with a series of images. The Marine had thought it might be a broach or a family seal.

"I'll need to spend some time with this, I also have several other things as well, so it won't be right away," Remedy slim as she started making some notes and things she would need to do.

"Is that it?" T'Rala asked.

"For now, yes, I have other things I have on my plate," Remedy said simply before setting the piece into a protected case and closed the lid.

"In the case, hen shall I return, Ma'am?" She asked.

And with that Remedy turned back to her work, she now had several projects, along with looming counseling over her head, which in turn made her want to drink.
