1,469 words; about a 7 minute read
Mission:
Standing By
Location: Bridge, et al
[PREVIOUSLY]
"She looked at me because she was asking ME the question? Have you not heard of social cues, Percy?" Amanda's eyes narrowed at Percy. "But you're right, you definitely like to hear yourself talk and you're definitely a narcissist. Psychopath is unlikely. Sociopath, we can test for...."
[CONTINUED]
"Test away," Percy snorted. "And you're right I didn't read the social cues. Sometimes I just act and I don't think. I'm sorry I spoke out of turn."
Amanda looked at Percy like he had two heads. Did he just apologize? Well, he certainly could not have meant it. He's just trouble all the time. For a response, she simply shook her auburn locks out of her way and headed to her chair on the bridge and collapsed into it.
In the turbolift, Grace tapped her combadge. "Computer, give me a brief rundown on the new chief medical officer." If she was going to meet the resident curmudgeon, she was going to go prepared.
[Sickbay]
Grace walked into sickbay and looked for the new doctor. He'd be easy to find, he would be the one with the attitude.
Aaron heard the doors open and had already been standing and waiting for the Captain by a bio bed. "Ah yes the prodigal Captain returns. For the record it does not matter who removes you from the ship, and it doesn't matter what the reason was. If it was against your will it is kidnapping. Now, if you hop on this bio bed I can get you reinstated as the Captain, and return to my reading. This way we all win."
She walked over to the biobed and paused. "This time. In future, I request that you ASK me to come to sickbay and IF I need to deal with an emergency first, you will give me more than five minutes to comply to your demands or you will find that I can be as intransigent as you are when dealing with you and your medical research."
Then she gracefully sat on the biobed and raised an eyebrow.
Aaron exhaled sharply through his nose. Typical Starfleet Captain not wanting to look after their own health. he thought. "Captain as you are no doubt aware what you said just now is well bull. As the Chief Medical Officer, I have the right, nay the responsibility to order you to Sick Bay when I think you may be in danger, or putting this ship and crew in danger. This ship has a chain of command for a reason, so if you need to be here any emergencies can be handled by Mr. Mustache and he can inform you later." He snapped a tricorder open and began to scan. "I am Dr Aaron Marcus by the way." The tone in his voice had the subtext of as it she didn't already know. "Now while you were off seeking treasure did they make you eat or drink anything?"
"You had the right to ask me to come down to sickbay. You had no cause to relieve me of duty," she countered. "As for food or drink, no. It was not a social call." She looked at his face, noting that his attitude was etched in every line. It was too bad, really. "As soon as you clear me for duty, which should not take much more time, I would like you to go to the brig and examine Lieutenant Mizuhara. She apparently had some sort of breakdown and went tearing through the Jefferies' tubes. I can't give you the details as you didn't give me time to learn more."
"Commander as you are no doubt aware getting masters of starships into Sick Bay for any reason is like pulling teeth. As I said it is protocol to come to Sick Bay as soon as you are back on the ship. Since you did not follow protocol I was forced to get your attention. I am sure I got it now. I will tend to your Engineer as soon as I can. They are in the Brig so they are not going anywhere." He finished his scans and saw no sign of injury or toxins. However, her cortisol levels were through the roof. "It seems that you are fine and everything is as it should be. That is with one exception, your cortisol levels are through the roof. I can only recommend one thing for that, a nice hot cup of cocoa."
Grace smiled in spite of herself. "Finally, some sound medical advice. For the record, I would have come here as soon as I learned what was going on if you'd asked. I believe emergencies take precedence if the captain is fit for duty." She was certain they'd debate this issue again before too long. And a cup of hot cocoa sounded perfect right now. "However, I will comply with your order." She would give him that much.
Having secured Haruna in the Brig, Anahera made her way to the Bridge.
Arriving there, she had been told of Grace's reappearance, and her summoning to Sickbay, So, she headed down there, Grace would require a Security debrief having returned so suddenly to the ship.
Aaron heard the doors to Sick Bay open yet again. "Oh, is this perhaps another wandering soul returned to the mother ship?" A red haired woman who wore a yellow uniform walked into the treatment area. "You are simply going to have to wait. I don't do threesomes anymore. On account of the bum leg." Aaron said with a smirk.
"I do, but I've got picky in my old age, and Doc, I'm afraid you don't make the grade." Anahera said.
Grace was surprised any woman would want to bed him with that attitude. Or was the bum leg responsible for that, too? "If I'm cleared for duty would the two of you care to join me on the bridge to get to the bottom of this?"
The absolute worst thing for doctor who served on a starship was going to the Bridge. As Aaron saw it there was absolutely no reason for it. Anything he needed to know could be told to him through the intercom while he was in Sick Bay. However, he also knew when to meet someone half way to get what he wanted. "Very well I guess one good summons deserves another."
Grace nodded. "You know, I might actually grow to like you." At least he was better than Elijah. But then, that didn't take much. "And I promise the next time I'm kidnapped, I'll come to you first."
Then she tapped her combadge. "Vetur to Bálor and Ra-Gruvloveii. Cancel the briefing room. We're coming back to the bridge."
Anahera said nothing more for now.
[Bridge]
Grace walked off the turbolift, followed by Marcus and Chernova and again went over to Yiv and Percy. "Now, where were we?"
[Zero's Quarters]
Zero stood in his Borg alcove, illuminated by the green glow from the device over his head, before his eyes shot open. He stepped down and walked over to the desk. As if in a zombie like state, he tapped on the console and opened a com-channel to Peri. "Lieutenant Valeri..." He said in his cold tone. "Please meet me on the bridge. I have come across an anomaly that requires our attention."
"Yes, sir." Peri was up and dressed, expecting to spend a little time on her latest project. Instead, she slipped on her uniform jacket and headed to the bridge.
The Borg tapped on the console, closing the channel, before walking out of his bedroom and soon out of his quarters. Zero walked at a calm, but quick pace, with his hands behind his back and eyes locked in front of him until he reached a Turbolift. He directed it to the Bridge and stood there patiently until it reached his destination. As he stepped out, he walked to his Ops Console, only to be stopped by the sudden gathering of senior officers. Upon further examination, he noticed Commander Vetur among them.
"Commander Vetur..." He said with almost a puzzled tone as he walked over to them. "I see you have managed to escape your captors. A bold accomplishment. Given the record for Captain Thayne Kilgore, provided by Starfleet Intelligence, there was a likelihood you may not have been recoverable. I am pleased this is not the case, Commander."
