Drunk Research

Posted on Sun Aug 15th, 2021 @ 7:53am by Lieutenant Amanda Rose & Ensign Remedy Slim

924 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Out of Time
Location: Library

Stumbling, not from the drinks; well maybe a little drunk, but that has never stopped her from getting some research done. I mean yes it was possibly a little sloppy, but it was mostly to get her going.

"Alright, come on Remedy get your head on straight, Tkon Empire time, let's light that fire or whatever that tagline was for the empire," she muttered as she found a stop, and plopped down to get started. And, like always her stylus started to tap, no rhythm really just tapping, speeding up, and slowing down at random.

Amanda had come into the library to find a new holobook. She was looking around the library and noticed the tapping. Approaching from behind, the Counselor looked at the Ensign and tapped her on the shoulder. "Excuse me, but can you stop the tapping? Others might appreciate it."

Screw the others Remedy thought but was lucky enough and held her tongue, but she did stop the tapping and looked around, "Others, until you arrived I was the only one here," she said unable to help herself.

Smelling Remedy's breath, Amanda knew that she had to tread carefully. The ensign was clearly drunk. How much real alcohol was served on board, anyway? "Can you tell me your name, Ensign? I'm Amanda."

"Remedy Slim, err...I guess really it is ensign Remedy Slim, seeing as somehow when you join Starfleet your rank is now somehow a part of your identity," she said smugly, showing off that she was not a fan of that concept.

"It can be. It is all a matter of how you treat the uniform. Why did you join Starfleet, Remedy?"

"....bit personal of a question, don't you think?" Remedy asked, knowing that if it was all she had to do was say it was personal, but she was buzzed or did she decide that she was drunk, well either way she was in one of her moods.

"Not really?" Amanda replied simply. "Small talk, if you would."

Truthfully, she didn't or did she, "small talk, such a derivative thing, don't you think, I mean...," Remedy said as some ideas sparked in her drink-filled brain, "....actually that gives me an idea for a paper," the Rigellian said perking up a little bit, "I can see the title of the paper now, Is Small Talk Derivative?, yes it'll be fascinating," she added kinda forgetting about the women in front of her.

"I find that small talk is quite revealing... Are you currently on duty, Remedy?" Amanda asked curiously.

"Off duty, why am I not allowed to do research while off duty?" Remedy asked knowing that it wasn't about research.

"You're quite permitted to do what you want when off duty, except when it is not befitting the uniform. Right now, I'd say that you're just about on the line," Amanda informed Remedy. "I'd really hate to involve third parties," the counselor informed Remedy with a small cluck. "Perhaps it would be best to come to my office?"

"You know I am gonna pass, and just head back to my quarters, and do some research in private, seeing as I am off duty and all," Remedy said standing up, and collecting her things, "as for the third party, do what you need," that was the thing about Remedy she'll fully accept that she screwed up, but as of right now she didn't believe she has.

"I will escort you to your quarters. Consider it professional courtesy, seeing as I'm the Chief Counselor."

Remedy just nodded swinging her bag onto her shoulder, before being escorted out, there was, well no, {control your tongue, be smart,} her brain said finally catching up with what just transpired between the two women.

Amanda started escorting Remedy and asked, "So, where are your quarters?"

"Deck 3, just down from the mess, well I guess technically around the corner from the mess," Remedy said going more into detail than she probably needed, mostly just to prove she wasn't as drunk as the chief counselor thinks she is.

I wonder how often she drinks. She's giving extra explanations to try and prove she's not drunk and that I'm overreacting. Definitely scheduling her for her psychological tomorrow and a substance abuse evaluation. "That must be very convenient for meals."

Remedy just shrugged, hoping, honestly she didn't know what she was hoping for, but either way they were at her quarters, "look that I made it to my quarters," Remedy said, refraining from saying the other thing which would have just made all of this worse.

"Wonderful. So, would you like me to schedule your appointment with me now, or contact you in the morning?"

"....err what?" Remedy said spinning on her feet, still quite graceful, "excuse me what session?"

"Two hours. One for your standard psych evaluation and the other for standard counseling."

Honestly, she didn't know when she was actually due for a psych evaluation or the standard talk-thing that counselors insist on, but she also knew that fighting it would just make things worse, "fine, whatever I'll be there," she added.

"Good, 0900. That should give you some time to shake off any hangovers if you have them. Oh, and I shall set a reminder for you, as well." Amanda smiled pleasantly at Remedy.

Remedy was now pretty much sober as her body absorbed alcohol much faster, either way, the damage was done so she just walked into her quarters.

Amanda shook her head, smiled and headed off to find her holo.
