Reporting to the Captain

Mission: Into the Unknown
Location: Ready Room

Grace ensured that her personal possessions were safely transferred to her quarters before heading to the bridge to meet the Captain. She would have time to unpack later, but for now, she was more interested in reporting in and learning if her new boss had need of her right away. It was her first posting as First Officer and she wanted to start things off on the right foot.

She paused outside the door to straighten her uniform before ringing the chime.

“Come in.” Elijah said in response to the Door chime.

She entered and took a quick glance around the room. You could tell a lot about a person by how they decorated their office. Then her gaze focused on the captain. He wasn't what she expected from his file. "Hello. I'm Grace Vetur."

“Welcome aboard the Ontario, Lieutenant Commander.” Elijah responded as he offered her the vacant seat opposite him. “First posting as an XO.”

"It is," she said, sitting gracefully in the proffered chair. "I was a diplomat and a counselor before I accepted this position."

“So what made you change? Not many diplomats ever take the command track.” Elijah asked.

"That's a good question." She looked at him for a moment, considering her answer. "I like to challenge myself. You don't grow as a person if you aren't trying new things. Although it was a former captain that suggested I take the command courses, I'm ready to try new things and I believe I'm capable of doing the job well."

“Well that’s a good answer.” Elijah responded to her. “Because the Ontario and the souls serving on her are our responsibility, we can’t have the unprepared leading them into battle can we??”

"No, but you can never be prepared for everything," she countered. "You need a solid foundation to build on." She raised an eyebrow. Her expression was serene, but there was a twinkle of humor in her eyes. "We'll see how my foundation holds up."

"And i look forward to seeing that foundation Commander...." He responded smirking.

She liked word-play and couldn't help responding in kind. "I hope it lives up to your expectations."

"Well for now i shall let you get settled in, take a look around the ship and then prepare for departure." Elijah responded.

"Thank you, sir." She stood, still facing him. "I look forward to working with you." She gave him a polite nod before turning and walking out of the ready room.

“Likewise.” Elijah responded as the two of them parted ways. A new command team in the making.
