Mission: Preservation Instinct
Starbase Riversong, Café near Medical Offices
Lenn'Aya sat at an exterior table of the Café, the Large and strong Ice Coffee barely touched. Robin; her 'Hot Stuff' was in with a counselor, one who specialized in cases like him.
'Aya' knew little about what he did; going from Marine Major to Intel did cause a slight fright until he assured her as a 'Recon Marine' he had experience in planning from an Intel interactions. This is also a very important meeting; one Robin told her set if he stays in Fleet of not?
Rumors from Aya's roommate , a fellow Marine under Robins former command, had told her about 'Chaotic' and the antics he had done to harden the troops. He was all professional and pushed to assure his Marines survive. Of course there were 'Rumors' of Chaotic prior to Ontario that were scary; that while using that Code Name he had destroyed a Communications Base; Phasered one of his own team to avoid their capture and some really scary things.
It is not like her 'Hot Stuff' who is a pacifist; he dotted and pampered Aya. She doubted the fact a single person could destroy a whole Communications Node single handed without explosives.
Also, Marines do not leave anyone behind so the Phasering story was out of proportion obviously. Major Maxwell was respected by his Marines, so a lot of the rumors seemed too large to be true and maybe Robin would clear them up with her.
He loved her without any double, but his new job and Classified Missions he cannot tell her are a truth with him. He never gave Aya reason to doubt him and is honest as classified things allow.
He had done things in combat; Battles are Hell, so Aya knew he could do what is called for. She just wondered what he had done to need the Counselor; a specialist, to clear him?
Outside Duty when they had time together, he is an open book, a loving boyfriend that made even an Andorian Female feel safe and pampered. It was more a human thing to be that affectionate but Aya was liking his attention. He had earned her dedication through affectionate actions and words. Curbed to her 'Andorian' Physique and even some of her customs without second thought or complaint.
"But still, what was taking so long." Aya asked no one in particular as she slipped some more coffee.
Starbase Riversong, Promenade
Yiv had taken the opportunity to slip away from the ship for a walk. He did not intend to be away for very long, just to give him time enough to get the lay of the land before he checked his furlough pass.
Breathing the air of another ship was somehow freeing, even if it was essentially the same stuff he inhaled on the Ontario. Riversong had a respectable promenade. Not as large as some he had seen, particularly on some of the larger bases Starfleet owned, but it still boasted its own forested area and common.
Seeing there was no sign against it, Yiv swerved off the path and made his way to the small copse of trees.
Adriane was sitting under a tree reading. A shadow fell over her. "Hello." She smiled brightly.
'Oh, hi there,' Yiv replied pleasantly, torn from his reverie as he encountered the unexpected person. 'I'm sorry. I wasn't quite looking where I was going ... '
She smiled. "Bah! That was just the fates leading you to a new friend." The older woman patted the space beside her. "Come, sit with an old woman. I so rarely get to talk the ears off people."
With a quick glance around the area to check it out, an ingrained trait from years of intelligence training, Yiv fixed a smile, and took a seat, folding his legs up neatly. 'I think you'll find I'm a good listener - but I didn't catch your name?'
"Eden. I'm a botanist who is too old to garden." She smiled. "I love hearing about people's stories. Where are you from son?"
Yiv felt a tart comment building about a botanist being too old to garden, but let it pass. 'Originally? Delta Efrosia, but I haven't been back to the home planet in, well, several years.' In truth it was probably more like a decade and a half. 'Otherwise, you could say I'm from everywhere and nowhere,' he indicated his uniform. 'Active duty officer. And yourself? Were you stationed here?'
She smiled. "Your home planet is amazing. My first husband was from there. My son is back there now." She then signed. "As for stationed, no. I'm here with my second husband who is the most annoying Admiral in Starfleet and playing with his rank. Sadly, he's playing the matchmaker."
Surprised at the coincidental connection they shared, Yiv raised an eyebrow. 'It's rare for males of my species to wed. You must have made quite an impression. And your current husband, is he playing romantic matchmaker, or career matchmaker?'
She smiled. "Indeed. My first husband was...the love of my life. When he passed...well life was never the same." She sighed. "But my son is back there, everything is in order and as for my second husband," She again smiled fondly. "He's an old fool that thinks he's cupid. He's a hopeless romantic who saw an officer he thought of as a son and now has decided it's long time the boy found a husband. So, he's working his magic." Eden sighed. "So, how long have you been in Starfleet then?"
'Long enough,' Yiv laughed, wondering who the admiral and unfortunate officer were. 'Something like a decade and a half by now.' He offered nothing more, wavering between his gregarious nature and the need to be circumspect about his own work.
"A nice number." She studied him. "Do you miss home?"
The Efrosian looked at her for a moment, then at the ground and shook his head. 'That planet isn't home, not really. I've spent most of my adult life away from there, serving in Starfleet. That's where home is. Where family is.' Yiv looked at her, curious. 'Did you spend a lot of time there with your first husband?'
She smiled sadly. "Yes. It was a safe place for me. I only left after my husband died and my son went back as soon as he was old enough." She looked down on the ground. "It was difficult to leave but I was only tolerated while my husband was alive." She shrugged. "Things work out the way that they work out."
Before she could say anything further a shadow fell over them. "Ah." She said looking up. "Hello dear. I was just plotting running away and marrying this young man."
The tall man with gray hair and a friendly expression smiled. "Excellent. You're doing me a favor taking the old girl off my hands."
Eden's eyes narrowed and the man laughed. "Admiral Tolsen." He held out his hand to the Efrosian.
'Commander Ra-Gruvloveii,' Yiv replied lightly, with a smile as he took the man's hand and shook it firmly. 'Your wife was telling me you were taking an interest in an officer's wellbeing?'
He grinned. "Ah my boy! I am indeed."
Eden smiled. "So it went well?"
"Neither knows a thing. One is settled on the Ontario and the other is on his way! They will meet after years of exchanging letters, profess their love, marry, and THAT will be the highlight of the year and my retirement gift to myself."
Eden sighed and looked at the commander as if to say, Do you see what I have to deal with? "It's nice to know your delusions are coming in nicely dear."
Tolsen bristled. "I am not delusional I'm just trying to do something nice and help Romance bloom." He turned back to the commander. "Now then, son. We're about to have lunch. Join us? I always like meeting Starfleet officers. It's the intel officer in me."
'Intelligence you say?' Yiv replied, his interest piqued. The Fleet was big, and he had never heard of an Admiral Tolson. 'It would be my pleasure to have lunch with you both. You can fill me in on this love-match you've managed to arrange.'
Tolsen clasped the man on the shoulder. "Ha! Finally someone understands. Let's go!"
